The sector’s exemption from levies came after lobbying by Europe’s spirits industry in countries such as France, home to an important wine industry and cognac makers like Remy Martin and Hennessy, and Italy, where Milan-based Campari Group owns U.S. bourbon brand Wild Turkey as well as its namesake bitter liqueur.
